Offshore Storm Flooded Lindenhurst's Shoreline on Sat.

Flooding waters make a brief return during high tide on Saturday.

It's been nearly a full year since Hurricane Sandy battered our island with brutal winds and an enormous storm surge that is not soon to be forgotten – especially with stark reminders seemingly showing up all the time.

Flood waters rose up again across the southern portions of Lindenhurst on Saturday – an ironically sunny skied day – as an off-shore storm pushed water up onto streets and low-lying areas across the village on Saturday.

Some photographs showed water as deep as waist-high in a few spots right near the Great South Bay and other vehicles struggled to escape the water in areas near Shore Road, Venetian Shores and the village marina.

Water also appeared to force it's way up through the sewer system in the area, giving the additional water already in the streets no where to go.

Post-Sandy flooding was prominent throughout the winter of 2012-2013 as storm system after storm system battered the coastline and high tides seemingly kept the water table from ever drying out. Floods have been seen much less in the past few months thanks in part to a temperate summer and little in the way of thunderstorm activity.
