Cops: Man Charged with DWI after Crashing into Home, Utility Pole in Lindy

The car Donta L. Riddick was driving caught on fire following the crash on Park Avenue in Lindenhurst early Thursday morning, causing a power outage, Suffolk Police say.

A Bay Shore man was arrested by Suffolk Police after he crashed his vehicle into a home and then a utility pole on Park Avenue in Lindenhurst early Thursday morning.

According to police, the car Donta L. Riddick, 26, of Bay Shore, was driving caught on fire and became engulfed after hitting the pole at 3:56 a.m. on Park Avenue at East Hoffman Avenue.

Eyewitness reports on Facebook indicated the driver of the car, who police identified as Riddick, was pulled from the car.

He was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip, police noted, and was being treated for minor injuries.

There were no other occupants in the car, and no other injuries were reported, said the SCPD.

There was also damage to the home that was hit, but details about the extent of the damage weren't available at presstime.

The Lindenhurst Fire Department responded to the scene and put out the fire.

LIPA was also called to the scene due to the power outage caused by the car crashing into the utility pole, police added. And as of 5 p.m. on Thursday LIPA was reporting no outages in the Village of Lindenhurst or nearby West Babylon.

Suffolk Police said Riddick is being charged with DWI, reckless driving, second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, leaving the scene and unlawful possession of marijuana.

The investigation is continuing into the May 2 incident, police officials added.
