Charity Event to Benefit Lindy Teen with Bone Cancer

Babylon Village bar will host event with hockey and football stars as well as buffet and raffles.

An afternoon of fun will be held on August 17 at Lily Flanagan's Pub in Babylon Village to benefit a Lindenhurst teen battling bone cancer.

Carissa Crossan, a Lindenhurst girl who will turn 13 later this year, was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma, a rare form of cancer found commonly in the bone or soft tissue in areas such as the pelvis, femur, humerus, ribs and collar-bone.

Almost all patients, including Crossan, are required to take multidrug chemotherapy as well as surgery and/or radiation. The treatment varies in length depending on location and stage of the disease.

Crossan's family has run into a bit of bad luck along the way – her father faces a disability after falling off a roof as carpenter and breaking his back and her mother sparingly has time work since Carissa's diagnosis. Despite the setbacks, the website "Stay Strong Carissa" notes she's maintained her positive outlook and sunny disposition.

The Crossans have health insurance, although the website notes they are not sure where the companies will cap it, especially with their daughter looking a year or more of chemotherapy and surgery.

The charity event to be held at Lily Flanagan's will donate all proceeds to her benefit with donations starting at $40 for adults and $10 for children 17 years old and under.

The bar will host multiple stars from the NFL and NHL to sign autographs and take photos, a silent auction, raffle ticket sales and a local radio station (to be announced) will be on site to give away free merchandise.

The event gets underway at 1 p.m. on August 17 with a three-hour open bar and buffet and the auction and raffle winners being announced in the final hour.
