Police: Lindenhurst Man Drove Drunk with Child in Car

Accused drunk driver had his two-year-old son in the vehicle with him.

Suffolk County Police have arrested a Lindenhurst man for driving while intoxicated with his two-year-old son in the vehicle on Monday evening.

First Precinct officers responded to a reported domestic dispute 911 call on East Merritt Street in Lindenhurst on Monday evening around 9:40 p.m. Upon their arrival, police said they were advised that Gilbert Lopez-Silvero, 38, had driven away from the home with his two-year-old son in the car and was possibly drunk.

Lopez-Silvero returned to the East Merritt Street location in his 2013 Dodge Durango with his son in the vehicle.

Police arrested Lopez-Silvero upon his return and transported him to the First Precinct. He was charged with violating "Leandra's Law," or Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Passenger 15 Years Old or Younger, as well as Driving While Intoxicated and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

Lopez-Silvero was held at the First Precinct overnight and is scheduled for arraignment today at First District Court in Central Islip.
