Police: Teenage Burglar Arrested in Lindenhurst

Teen broke into and stole from two Lindenhurst beverage stores on Hoffman Avenue in past week.

Suffolk County Police arrested a teenager who had run away from a juvenile facility and charged him with two burglaries in Lindenhurst on early Saturday morning.

Police told Patch.com they arrested a 15-year-old for breaking into two Lindenhurst businesses early Saturday morning. Suffolk Police did not release the name of the juvenile, who had previously ran away from a facility in Westchester, because he is a minor.

According to the Suffolk County Police, a woman flagged down patrol officers when she heard the sound of shattering glass near the corner of Hoffman Avenue and South Broadway Avenue after midnight this morning.

At around 12:55 a.m., the officers were interviewing a witness when they heard more glass shattering and saw a male climb out of a broken window at Flag Beverage at 75 West Hoffman Avenue. The officer gave a description of the suspect over police radio and began pursuing him on foot.

Numerous officers responded and the suspect was eventually caught on Wellwood Avenue and East Gates Avenue at 1:19 a.m.

An investigation revealed the teen had also stolen lottery tickets from the store and the proceeds were recovered shortly after.

The investigation also revealed the youth was allegedly responsible for another burglary at Exotic Liquors, located on Hoffman Avenue near Fifth Street, on July 11.

The teen was charged with two counts of Burglary in the third degree and issued a Desk Appearance Ticket before being released to the Westchester, New York juvenile facility where he lives.
