Old Village Hall Lifted, Ready for Move to Irmisch Park

One of the village's oldest buildings was lifted and readied for transportation on Thursday.

The old Village Hall is going to be on the move very soon – the building was picked up and maneuvered onto a moving truck on Thursday in preparation for its eventual move to Irmish Park.

The former village hall, currently located at 215 South Wellwood Avenue, has been used as a village hall, police station and, most recently, a museum, but the building will be taking on the role of historical place of interest as the moving process really got under way this week.

The entirety of the building was loaded on to the dolly of a moving truck, leaving behind the former foundation and basement areas of the former village hall. All that prevents the building from moving to its new home are reportedly permits and a new foundation.

The old building's back third was knocked down as workers began to make the building ready for the move to Irmisch Park, between South Third and South Broadway. The knocked-down portion was not originally part of the building, added later in its life for storage space for a growing museum.

The front of the building also had some noticeable changes as it was readied – a front door was taken out and obvious cuts were made near the base.

The removal process was halted in September after tests found asbestos in the building, requiring immediate removal.

The building is being removed to make way for the eventual demolition of the Lindenhurst Fire Department Main House, which will be replaced by a newer firehouse.

The current Main House was shut down in late September for good. The building is being replaced due to major structural issues, including large cracks running down the side near the front.
