Village Makes Down-Payment on New Museum

Future museum was the former home of the St. Vincent de Paul Society.

The Village of Lindenhurst is putting a downpayment on a new home... for the village museum, that is.

The village board unanimously authorized a deposit on the purchase of the new museum building, located at 272 South Wellwood Avenue in Lindenhurst, from Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church.

The blue, three-story house formerly was the home of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, which has moved into a portion of the former Our Lady of Perpetual Help School.

Village administrator Shawn Cullinane said the authorized down-payment of $35,000 was for 10 percent of the final purchase price – $350,000.

Cullinane also said the village has put aside $100,000 to renovate the building.

The village museum artifacts are being safely stored, Cullinane said, at a facility until the building can be purchased and renovated to the Lindenhurst Historical Society's wants and needs.

The materials were moved out of the Old Village Hall Museum earlier this year in preparation for its move from S. Wellwood Avenue to Irmisch Park on Broadway and S. 2nd Street.

There was no immediate word of when the new village museum would open to the public.
