Village Plans Move for Old Village Hall Museum

New Wellwood Avenue Main Fire House will take over property the museum currently resides on.

The Village of Lindenhurst plans on moving the Old Village Hall Museum from its current location on South Wellwood Avenue to Irmisch Park as a part of the construction project on the new Main Fire House.

The museum building, which has previously housed the old village government offices and the Lindenhurst Village Police Department before its use as a museum, will be relocated to Irmisch Park, located between South Broadway and South Third Street. It is currently located at 215 South Wellwood Avenue.

The village's old railroad depot was previously relocated to the park and officials are confident the park's expansive space will allow the old museum to be added nicely.

Village officials several measures during the public board meeting held on Tuesday to prepare the building for the eventual move, including authorizing a maximum of $180,000 for  the relocation and renovations to the building.

The village is also looking into acquiring another property along South Wellwood Avenue to replace the cramped confines of the current museum. The village board approved measure authorizing an offer be made to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church for the purchase of a property at 272 South Wellwood Avenue.

The property, a two-story home-like structure, was last professionally used as a lawyer's office.
