Konarski Garners All-American Consideration at State Championship

Kevin Konarski finishes his swimming career at Lindenhurst High School strongly, placing fourth in the 200-yard freestyle, capturing All-American consideration and qualifying for three more competitions at the Championship upstate this weekend.

Kevin Konarski has finished his swimming career at the Lindenhurst High School as "the most decorated swimmer in our school's history," garnering All-American consideration and qualifying for three more upcoming competitions at the NYSPHSAA Swimming and Diving Championship that took place in Webster, New York, on March 1 and 2.

That's according to Coach Brian Washington, who shared with Lindenhurst Patch in an e-mail on Saturday at today's finals Konarski - senior captain of the LHS Varsity Boys Swimming team - placed fourth in the 200-yard freestyle.

"In addition, his time is fast enough for All-American consideration. His time lowered his previous school record he set last year. In the finals of the 500-yard freestyle, Kevin placed sixth in the State for public high schools," the coach wrote.

"Kevin completed his career at Lindenhurst as the most decorated swimmer in our school's history. He holds every freestyle record, and is a member of two school record-holding relay teams," Washington noted.

"Additionally, Kevin qualified for Junior Nationals, which are in Orlando, Florida, in two weeks; Summer Northeastern Sectionals in Buffalo, New York; and the Summer Long Course Nationals," he added.

Konarski, along with eight other seniors, led the Varsity Boys Swimming team this year to a seventh place finish at the Suffolk County Swimming Championships (seven out of 24 teams).

Konarski's a four-time Suffolk County Champion, and is recognized as All-State, All-Long Island and All-County in the 200- and 500-yard freestyle events.

Additionally, Konarski's the school record holder in the 50-, 100-, 200- and 500-yard freestyle events, and the two school record-holding 200- and 400-yard freestyle relay teams include him along with Adam Wawwro, Greg Fothergill and David Andujar.

Konarski's also a five-time state qualifier, and was competing upstate at the Championship once again this weekend.

"Additionally, Kevin's the national qualifier, and is due to be inducted into the Lindenhurst High School Hall of Fame in June," according to Washington earlier this week.

"Kevin's [also] being heavily recruited by the University of Connecticut, SUNY Rochester, SUNY Buffalo, University of North Carolina at Wilmington and the University of Georgia," added Washington.
