Two Lindy Students Honored for Sports Achievements

Lindenhurst High School seniors Kevin Konarski and Alyssa Barthelmes were honored for their recent sports achievements by the District at the most recent Lindenhurst Board of Education Community Forum.

Barthelmes snagged the state champ title in track, earning a gold medal at the New York State indoor track championship at Cornell University in March.

A member of the Varsity Girls Track team coached by Steve Gosline, she's also a five-time All-League, County Champ and State Champ, and will attend Bloomsburg University in the Fall on a track scholarship, according to Superintendent Richard Nathan.

Konarski captured All-American honors at the NYSPHSAA Swimming and Diving Championship that took place in Webster, New York, in March. He also qualified  for three more competitions, and came in fourth in the 200-yard freestyle and sixth in the 500-yard freestyle.

A member of the Varsity Boys Swimming team coached by Brian Washington, Konarski also lowered his own school record, garnering the 35th fastest time in the United States, noted Nathan.

He's a four-time Suffolk County Champion, and is recognized as All-State, All-Long Island and All-County in the 200- and 500-yard freestyle events. He's being recruited by the University of Connecticut, SUNY Binghamtom, SUNY Buffalo, University of North Carolina at Wilmington.
