Lindy Residents Protest Potential Addition of Arby's

Fast food restaurant would fill vacant property on Sunrise Highway.

A group of Lindenhurst residents had their concerns heard at a planning board meeting at Lindenhurst Village Hall on Wednesday evening.

According to News 12 Long Island, the village residents were protesting a proposed Arby's fast-food chain restaurant looking to open on the property at 100 W. Sunrise Highway, where Bill's Vacation Trailers used to be located.

Residents told the television news station they were worried the restaurant would bring more noise, smell, traffic and garbage to their neighborhood.

"The noise, the smells, the garbage, the rodents," listed Celia St. John. "I don't want to open my windows and smell hamburgers and fries 24/7."

Another resident, who was not shown in attendance at the meeting, welcomed the idea of an Arby's coming to Lindenhurst.

"Absolutely fabulous!" said Lynn Visciano to News 12. "We need an Arby's out here. I'm from the West Coast and they have them all over out there. They are the best."

St. John disagreed, noting the village has other options just down the road, including McDonald's, Taco Bell and Checker's.

"I've been living there since 1985 and it's never been any kind of fast food establishment or restaurant," she said. "There's restaurants a quarter of a mile down the road... they don't need to come to our section. That's what we're upset about."

The planning board declined to approve or deny the plan during the meeting.
