Two Lindenhurst Middle School students were recently honored for their eco-friendly efforts at the school.

Babylon Town Councilman Tom Donnelly visited the LMS on April 30 to recognize eighth-grader Alexis Warren and sixth-grader Luke Cawley for their work on two projects to improve the environment.

Warren received $1,000 from the Disney Friends for Change Grant to use fora recycling project that'll include the addition of new wood chips in the school’s courtyard.

Cawley collected funds to purchase two new linden trees for the courtyard after researching Lindenhurst’s name and learning it comes from the vast amounts of linden seeds planted by settlers throughout the area.

Cawley and Warren were joined by guidance counselor Allison Kast, along with teacher Kate Hynes, Principal Frank Naccarato,BOE Trustees Ed Langone, Mary Ellen Cunningham, Ann Parmaly of Senator Phil Boyle’s office, Donnelly, Superintendent Richard Nathan, Assistant Principal Dr. Bruce Hoffman and teacher Stephen DiVisconti.

They are pictured together from left to right in the accompanying photo, with  Cawley, Warren and Kast together in front.
