Lindy's Konarski Commits to UConn

Lindenhurst High School senior, swim star and school record holder Kevin Konarski has verbally committed to the University of Connecticut.

That's according to Brian Washington, head coach of the Lindenhurst Varsity Boys Swimming team, of which Konarski's a part.

"Senior Kevin Konarski has verbally committed to the University of Connecticut (UConn) for next Fall. Kevin will sign his letter of intent LOI, and is being offered an athletic scholarship," Washington shared in an e-mail with Lindenhurst Patch earlier this week.

Konarski captured All-American honors at the NYSPHSAA Swimming and Diving Championship that took place in Webster, New York, in March.

He also qualified for three more competitions, and came in fourth in the 200-yard freestyle and sixth in the 500-yard freestyle.

The LHS senior's a four-time Suffolk County Champion, and is recognized as All-State, All-Long Island and All-County in the 200- and 500-yard freestyle events.

In addition, Konarski - who was recently honored by the Lindenhurst School District for his swimming achievements - helped lead the team a seventh place finish at the Suffolk County Swimming Championships (seven out of 24 teams) this year.

Konarski was being recruited by several several schools besides UConn, including SUNY Binghamtom, SUNY Buffalo and University of North Carolina at Wilmington.

Washington said Konarski's been "offered a half scholarship for tuition, room and board" from UConn.
