Main Firehouse Demolition Nearly Complete

The old firehouse is being demolished months after being officially closed by the village.

The demolition of the Lindenhurst Fire Department Main House was nearly completed by around noon on Tuesday.

The building, which had been completed in 1923, had been closed in late September in anticipation of the demolition.

Crews at the site said the demolition of the remainder should be completed by later Tuesday afternoon. As of noon, only the front lower portion of the building remained standing, with debris from the rest of the building surrounding it.

Late last week, the signage engraved into the building denoting it as part of the Lindenhurst Fire Department was removed.

The village is venturing forward on a $5.5 million bond to build a brand-new, state-of-the-art main house on the current site.

The next-door Old Village Hall was removed last month from its foundation and put onto a dolly near the back of the property as it will be moved in the future. The former village hall is expected to be moved to Irmisch Park, along with the former Long Island Rail Road depot.
